Traveling can take a serious toll on your immune system. Lack of sleep, eating meals in not-so-healthy restaurants and being in close quarters with other people (and their yucky germs) can leave you wide open to all kinds of maladies.
There are steps you can take to keep your immune system working full force and fighting off those nasty illnesses.
1. Get Enough Sleep
I know it’s hard when you’re in a new place – maybe there’s a time difference or jet lag has set in – but sleep is essential for good health. Bring an eye mask, noise canceling headphones and maybe even an all natural sleep aid like melatonin to help you get at least 7-8 hours of sleep while on the road or in the air.
2. Stay Hydrated
Drink like a fish! Being properly hydrated is an excellent tool for remaining healthy. Water keeps your body working like it should, so make sure you keep a reusable water bottle with you and fill that sucker up everywhere you go!
3. Eat Your Veggies
Getting your fill of a variety of raw vegetables while traveling can help your body maintain optimum nutrients and ward off any bugs. Opt for salads in the airport restaurants instead of heavy foods or sweets. If you’re flying, call the airline ahead of time and request a special veggie filled meal.
4. Oregano Oil & Colloidal Silver
Pick up little bottles of oregano oil and colloidal silver and keep them in your carry on. Oregano oil eliminates bad bacteria hanging out in your gut and is a great immune booster. Put a couple drops in your water along with some lemon juice two to three times a day and say so long to any ailments that may be trying to get you. Colloidal silver can be sprayed directly onto your face and skin, which helps to ward off bacteria, viruses and parasites.
5. Wash Up
Do you have any idea how many germs you come across in airports, public restrooms, taxi cabs or anything other place you may encounter while traveling? My scientific answer is – A LOT. Remember to wash your hands often and keep them away from your mouth & eyes. Don’t get too germaphobic though and go crazy with hand sanitizers, your immune system needs exposure to some germs in order to stay active and working properly.
6. Fight it Off
If you start to feel the beginnings of a cold or flu even after your best efforts, nip it in the bud quickly! Taking shots of organic lemon juice mixed with ginger and a little cayenne pepper or eating raw garlic (sounds rough – but it works!) can help kill off those illnesses quickly.
As long as you plan ahead and have some essentials with you while you’re out discovering the world you can stay happy and healthy.
